SAINT ANDREWS CHURCH , HUBLI KARNATAKA
FACTS CONNECTED WITH THE HISTORY OF ST. ANDREWS CHURCH

The foundation stone was laid on the 21st November 1896 by the Rt. Rev. Dr. L.G. Mylne, Bishop of Bombay and the building was completed in September 1897.

It was erected at a total cost of Rs 6801/- of which about Rs 5000/- was contributed by M.S.M. Railway Co. and shareholders of the company.

It was built by the agency of the company, the company agreeing to waive off supervision and other incidental charges.

The M.S.M. Railway Company has no control over the management of the church, nor do they undertake to carry out repairs.

Anything the company may do in connection with the fabric, or may have done in the past is purely an act of grace and cannot be quoted as a precedent.

The church is the property of the Diocese of Bombay and a deed of trust in connection with the land was prepared by Dr. Mylne, the then Bishop of Bombay.

The church was consecrated by Dr. L.G. Mylne, Bishop of Bombay on the 5th June 1897 and was completed in September 1897.

The land was granted to the Bishop and Archdeacon of Bombay by a Sanad dated 8th July 1898, of which a copy is deposited in the office of the Diocesan Registrar.

An officer of the M.S.M. Railway Company has from the first been a senior member of the church committee thus being designed “Lay Trustee”.

In the petition for consecration it is stated that the church was built by public subscription. Its length from east to west is 77 feet 9 inches and its width from north to south is 50 feet 9 inches.

The ground on which the church stands is in length on the south side 325 ft, the west side 425 ft.

There is no provision for the permanent maintenance of the fabric, the petitioners on the part of the general subscribers having pledged themselves that the church shall be duly and properly maintained.
